Floor plan measurements: review before publication
Check the capture scope, dimensions and revision process for a property marketing floor plan.

Floor plan measurements need a clear capture method, scope and review process. Before publication, check the dimensions and labels against the agreed purpose rather than treating a marketing plan as a surveyed or construction document.
Ask how the plan will be prepared
Tell the provider whether there is an existing drawing and whether the home has changed since it was made. Confirm whether the service involves an on-site capture, supplied measurements or adaptation of another reference. Those are different starting points and should not be mixed without explanation.
Ask which areas will be included: internal rooms, garage, balconies, outdoor structures and separate accommodation. If an area will be inaccessible, discuss the limitation before the visit. A closed room cannot simply be assumed to match an old drawing.
Understand the stated dimensions
Ask how dimensions and areas are presented on the delivered plan. Distinguish room dimensions from a total area statement. Confirm the units, any rounding and any explanatory notes the provider supplies. Do not add figures together into a new total without understanding what they represent.
For a room with an unusual shape, ask how that is shown rather than assuming one length and one width describe every part. A useful review identifies the ambiguity and asks the plan provider to clarify it; it does not replace the provider’s method with a rough estimate.
Review with the property contact
Have someone who knows the property check room arrangement, doors, stairs, levels and labels. Ask the agent to consolidate any corrections and provide clear references. Mark the affected room on a copy if that makes the issue easier to understand.
A discrepancy should be investigated before publication. Avoid changing a number in a graphics editor merely because another number seems more plausible. Keep the correction trail and the final approved version together so the agency can distinguish it from earlier drafts.
Match the plan to its purpose
A marketing plan helps explain a property to prospective buyers or tenants. If another party needs dimensions for construction, certification, valuation or a legal issue, they should obtain the appropriate professional documentation for that purpose. Do not promote a campaign illustration as a substitute.
Tell our team about multiple levels, extensions and any existing plans when enquiring. We can confirm the relevant capture and drawing scope with JR Photo & Video and identify access needs before the appointment.
