Holiday Rental Photography: Plan the Guest View
Holiday rental photography that explains the stay. Prepare bedrooms, amenities, outdoor areas and accurate guest-facing image context.

Holiday rental photography should help a guest understand the accommodation they are considering. Show the sleeping arrangements, living spaces, bathrooms and relevant amenities clearly, then add selected details that explain the stay. The photographs should match the accommodation and facilities actually being offered, rather than imply inclusions that are not available.
A holiday property brief differs from a sale campaign. Guests may need to understand how rooms are arranged, where a group can eat and which outdoor areas they can use. Decide those questions before choosing decorative close-ups.
Start with the accommodation being booked
List the rooms, bed arrangements and areas included in the listing. Identify anything shared or excluded, such as a courtyard, laundry or separate owner’s space. Tell the photographer what a guest will actually have access to during the advertised stay.
Make sure the preparation reflects the offer. If a decorative item, special dining setup or welcome product is only for the photographs, consider whether it creates a misleading expectation. Ask the listing manager to review that presentation before publication rather than assuming guests will know what is illustrative.
Show the rooms before the details
Establish the main living and dining areas, each sleeping space and the bathrooms. Include views that explain how the property works for the intended guest group. A floor plan can supplement the images if the layout is difficult to follow.
Detail photographs can add context once the essentials are clear. Choose them for a reason: a reading area, an outdoor dining space or a useful kitchen setup. Avoid a gallery filled with cups, cushions and flowers that leaves the bedroom arrangement unclear.
Prepare consistently across the property
Finish cleaning and linen setup before the session. Straighten visible furnishings and remove maintenance equipment, packaging and private owner belongings. Check mirrors and reflective surfaces for items outside the main frame.
Prepare any guest amenities that are part of the brief, but keep safety fittings and operating instructions in their appropriate state. Do not remove a barrier or alter equipment for an attractive view. If a facility is unavailable, tell us and decide with the listing manager how the campaign should handle it.
For an occupied or privately used property, remove documents, family photographs and other personal material. Review what could be visible through windows or in mirrors, not just what is on the main surfaces.
Separate property views from destination context
A nearby beach, café precinct or walking area may be relevant to the destination, but it is different from a view taken at the accommodation. Provide clear context and confirm permission for any supplied images. Do not mix in another property’s amenity as though it belongs to this one.
Ask who will check descriptions and captions against the actual listing. Avoid unsupported statements about walking times, accessibility or included facilities based solely on an attractive photograph. Those details need reliable listing information.
Plan updates and different uses
Confirm whether the files are intended for accommodation platforms, a direct-booking website, social media or printed material. Ask for the agreed versions and usage terms. A horizontal listing photograph may not suit a narrow promotional crop without a separate composition.
Keep track of the version used in the live listing. After furniture, bed arrangements or facilities change, review whether the photographs remain current. A useful library has clear file names and a named person responsible for approving updates.
Send us the property type, suburb, guest accommodation layout and required media. We can discuss the planned set, confirm availability and agree the scope for an accurate, useful holiday rental gallery.
