Real estate drone photography: check feasibility first
Commission useful aerial property images with feasibility, weather alternatives and scope confirmed.

Real estate drone photography should be booked subject to the operator checking the property, proposed flight and conditions. A requested aerial view is not a guarantee that a flight can safely or lawfully take place.
Explain the picture you need
Tell the photographer what the aerial image should communicate: the relationship between house and outdoor areas, the property’s setting or the arrangement of buildings. That helps distinguish a useful shot from an aerial image added simply because a package mentions a drone.
Share the location early enough for a feasibility check. Mention nearby features that may affect planning, such as busy public areas or substantial works. The operator needs to assess the actual proposal; an agent should not treat a map pin or a neighbour’s previous flight as approval for this shoot.
Let the operator assess the flight
CASA sets drone safety rules and requirements that depend on the operation. Ask the provider to confirm the appropriate arrangements for the proposed work. Avoid relying on a blanket statement that every paid photograph requires the same credential, or that a small drone is exempt from every requirement.
The booking discussion should cover whether the desired capture can proceed, who is coordinating access and what alternative is available if it cannot. This guide is for commissioning media, not instructions for conducting a flight.
Plan a useful alternative
Weather and site conditions can affect the aerial part even when indoor photography can proceed. Agree whether the studio will substitute an appropriate ground view, return later by arrangement or remove that deliverable from the agreed scope. Confirm any effect on cost and timing before the campaign depends on the aerial images.
For a deadline-sensitive listing, decide which assets are essential for publication and which could be added later. Do not leave the whole campaign waiting for an unconfirmed aerial shot without discussing that dependency.
Review the result in context
Check that the selected photograph makes the subject property understandable and does not confuse it with neighbouring land or buildings. Ask the agent to approve any captions, highlights or boundary graphics. An attractive broad view does not establish title boundaries or access rights.
Send our team the suburb, property type, intended aerial purpose and publication date with your enquiry. We can confirm feasibility and the available scope with JR Photo & Video before including a flight-dependent promise in the booking.
