Real Estate Photographer Questions Before Booking
Real estate photographer questions that clarify scope, preparation, access, delivery and usage. Turn a vague booking into a useful brief.

The most useful real estate photographer questions clarify what will be delivered and what needs to happen before the session. Ask about the property brief, final media, preparation, access, editing, usage and timing. Finish with a written scope so the agency, owner and photographer are working to the same plan.
You do not need to know camera specifications to book well. Focus on the decisions that affect the campaign. The following questions can guide an initial conversation without turning it into an equipment interview.
What does this property need to show?
Describe the property and ask which views would explain it clearly. Identify the main living spaces, outdoor areas, secondary structures and features the agent considers important. Ask whether a floor plan or video would answer a question that still photographs may leave unclear.
Check the difference between essential and optional media. A twilight session or aerial view should have a reason in the brief. If there is a special feature, provide reference information instead of assuming it will be obvious to someone arriving for the first time.
What exactly is included in the quote?
Ask about the number of final edited photographs, how selection works and whether extra media are separate. Confirm the scope of editing and revisions. Ask how a request that changes the brief after capture would be handled.
Discuss travel and access constraints early. A long driveway, managed building or several separate spaces may affect the session. Ask about cancellations, weather changes and return visits so those decisions are understood before they become urgent.
How should the property be prepared?
Request preparation priorities specific to the proposed session. Confirm whether the included rooms must be ready on arrival and what assistance, if any, is included with moving small objects. Do not assume cleaning, styling or heavy furniture movement is part of the booking.
Discuss privacy concerns and any spaces that are not to be photographed. For a tenanted property, the property manager should coordinate access and relevant local requirements. Ask how residents can communicate practical concerns before the day.
Who needs to be there and who can decide?
Name an access contact and an authorised campaign contact. They may be different people. Confirm who can approve a composition change, an omitted room or a weather-related adjustment, and how they will be reached during the session.
Keep key locations, alarm details and other sensitive instructions out of a public enquiry. Arrange the private handover after the booking is confirmed. If a building manager, stylist or caretaker is involved, make sure the arrangements connect rather than assuming one supplier will organise everyone.
How will we receive and approve the files?
Ask about the agreed delivery timing, formats and file versions. Identify the launch deadline and the time needed for the agency’s review. Clarify whether different media arrive together or in stages and how corrections should be requested.
Check the permitted uses and whether the files can be passed to another supplier, reused later or archived. Permission matters: the Attorney-General’s copyright guidance explains the need for permission or another applicable basis to use copyright material. The booking terms should answer the project-specific questions plainly.
What information should we send now?
Start with property type, suburb or postcode, required media and a preferred date. Add any essential deadline or unusual access limitation. Detailed resident information and sensitive access instructions can wait for the appropriate confirmed channel.
Send us that outline and we can discuss the brief, quote and availability. Keep the final scope together so anyone coordinating the campaign can see what has actually been agreed.
