Real Estate Photography Prices: Read the Scope

Real estate photography prices depend on the agreed brief. Compare image counts, editing, travel, media, usage and delivery before booking.

Real estate photography prices only become useful when the scope is clear. Ask what is being photographed, what final files are included and which services are separate. A quote for still photographs alone cannot be meaningfully compared with one that also includes a floor plan, video or a return twilight session.

We quote against the actual property and campaign requirements. This guide explains the questions to ask; it does not present another photographer’s price as our own or suggest that one national rate fits every property.

Start with the property and the purpose

Provide the property type, suburb or postcode, approximate scope and intended campaign date. Explain whether it is a sale, a rental, a commercial campaign or a holiday accommodation listing. A small apartment, a tenanted home and a rural property may involve different access, coverage and preparation requirements.

Describe the features that need attention. That is more helpful than asking for the cheapest possible package before deciding whether the campaign needs a garage, garden, studio or shared facilities shown. State which items are essential and which are options.

Check the real estate photography inclusions

Ask whether the quoted image number refers to final edited selections or all captured frames. Confirm how the selection is made and who approves it. A large collection of repetitive angles is not necessarily more useful than a smaller, coherent set.

Check whether routine editing, a specific retouching request and virtual staging are treated separately. Discuss revision limits and what counts as a correction to the agreed brief. Do not assume a low initial price includes unlimited changes or a new session after the property has been restyled.

Ask what is excluded as well as included. Styling, cleaning and moving heavy furniture should not be quietly assumed to be part of a photography visit.

Separate additional media and visits

Video, drone photographs, floor plans and twilight work should be clear line items or clearly defined package inclusions. Confirm whether they are completed at the same appointment, subject to separate feasibility checks or require another visit.

Travel, difficult access, parking arrangements and time on site may affect a property-specific quote. Tell us about those factors early. If a campaign needs a staged delivery, ask how the first and remaining files will be handled. An urgent date should be discussed before any deadline is promised.

Ask how the files may be used

A delivered file and the right to use it are related but different questions. Clarify the agreed campaign uses, whether the agency may share files with an owner or another supplier and whether later campaigns need further permission. The Attorney-General’s copyright guidance explains that use generally needs permission or another applicable basis; the actual booking terms should make the permitted uses clear.

Do not assume every quote includes unrestricted ownership, indefinite archiving or re-editing by other parties. Ask for those points in plain language.

Compare the complete booking terms

Check whether tax is included where applicable, when payment is due and how cancellation, weather changes and extra visits are treated. Confirm the delivery format and agreed timing, plus who handles approval. Record important changes in the final scope rather than relying on an earlier conversation.

Send us the property details, media requirements and target date. We can discuss a written scope and quote for the services required, with availability and timing confirmed against the actual project.
